Thank You Supporters

September 6, 2011

For the first time in forty years, the Salt Lake City Council had an opportunity tonight to impose a higher standard for development of the property at 2705 East Parleys Way. Instead, they chose the status quo. We are disappointed that, as a result of the Council’s decision, Walmart won’t be able to give the community what it deserves—a brand new, smaller, and more energy efficient store with landscaping and shaded pedestrian walkways. Still, we are excited to have the opportunity to serve our customers in the East Bench–and this is the most important thing.

We want to thank everyone who took time to participate in the public process over the last 12 months. So many residents took time to attend their Community Council meetings, to register their opinions on- line at Open City Hall, and to attend the Planning Commission and City Council public hearings. We appreciate their continued engagement. We also want to thank City staff for their professionalism and for the time the have invested in preparing the extensive documentation necessary for a rezoning case.

Regarding the future of the site, we’re pleased to share with you that we are prepared to commence the remodeling work on the existing building at the Parleys Way location and we look forward to opening it as a 120,000 square foot Walmart Supercenter in Summer 2012.
